Glass and light are Kate's primary mediums and are often combined to create sculptural pieces, mainly site specific. Kate works predominantly with
lamp-worked glass, a technique that uses glass rod and tubing which is
blown and manipulated over a flame. It is a very fluid and organic process
which helps to influence her work. Kate also uses light in her work combined
with the glass, from natural sunlight to artificial, combining LEDs, fibre optics
and neon.
Kate enjoys working on site specific installations making larger sculptura
work that relates to the space in which it sits, often working with architects
and interior designers. She accepts both public and private commissions.
Kate has been inspired by carnivorous plants and false teeth, more recently
the environment, particularly fungi and the atmosphere around us,
specifically
rain.
Her experience includes working on commissioned work since 2001. Sh
has also been working within the lighting industry since 1997 particularly
installing neon for film, TV, and theatre. Kate is experienced in organising
and curating art shows through her involvement with Temple Arts Group,
and The Title.
For commissioned work Kate is involved in liaising with clients and architects
from initial consultation to design, fabrication and installation. She has
experience working as public artist on regeneration projects creating art work
in collaboration with the local community.
